Our possible and pipe bags, like our clothing, are fully hand sewn with authentic stitches. NOT shown in this image is a double buckskin draw string around the top to pull and tie closed and secure the contents. This style possible bags was carried by the Indians to hold bare essentials needed on the trail. A mountain man may also wear one fastened over his belt or sash for "critical" needs in case caught off guard without his primary hunting pouch. Pipe bags were used to hold the stem and bowl of ceremonial pipes, and a small tobacco bag of ceremonial smoking blend. Bag size used should be about 3" longer than the stem of your pipe. Both
types of bags were often highly decorated with beading and/or
quillwork. If you intend to do so on yours we recommend the
Indian tanned hides. They can be easily decorated using
traditional methods. With commercial tanned 'skin you have to
punch the needle through the hide. That makes it nearly
impossible to do good looking work on a ready-made bag. |
