Principle Native American Nations: Great for cool evenings that aren't quite cold enough for a capote. Companion piece to the Eastern Wrap Skirt. Drawn and described in same 1528 Dutch trader's journal as the skirt. Developed by Lenape women, but copied by many others. Hides are sewn together across the shoulders with small, authentic stitches. Short fringe about 1 1/2" (3.5cm) cut all around outside edge. Hangs down to several inches below the waist. Original was completely open along the sides. For modern decency laws, though, we thong ours from the inside, providing needed privacy while maintaining the look of the originals. Authentic for pre- and post-european contact outfits. |
