Principle Native American Nations: Wrap skirts were fashioned from fabric and buckskin by all eastern women. Ours is from drawings and description in a 1528 Dutch trader's journal. Takes a couple hides, which are sewn with smaller, authentic stitches. Authentic for pre- and post-european contact outfits for eastern and great lakes areas. An early companion to this skirt was the Lenape Pullover. Drawings showed Lenape (Delaware) women wrapped skirts counter-clockwise (as in our drawing). Instructions from recent Delaware elders confirmed that. Some Iroquois women did likewise, but most women wrapped their skirts clockwise. When ordering, you must tell us whether you want a clockwise or counter-clockwise wrap. Short fringe about 1 1/2" (3.5cm) cut all around bottom edge of skirt. Buckskin ties help hold skirt in place until you get your waist belt on. Comes to just below the knees in length. |
| Note: Sample buckskin colors may vary slightly depending on your browser. But then, colors vary slightly anyway between batches of buckskin during the smoking or dyeing processes. | |||||
