Principle Native American Nations: (circa 1700) The original was found in the Ohio Valley, and, therefore, said to be 1700's Maumee (Miami) or Lenape (Delaware). However it is styled like pre-european contact dresses of the plains women. Plains people did originally live in the Mid-West, and originally thonged their dresses in their time of pre-contact with europeans. In particular, the Mosopelea people (of Siouan descent) once lived in the area where this dress was found. If it is, in fact, made by an "eastern" women, it is the only eastern garment we've seen that was thonged together. The yoke is thonged to the front and back skirt panels. The skirt panels are thonged together down the sides after cutting the side and bottom edges into short 1 1/2" (3.75cm) fringe. The yoke edge is cut into about 2" (5cm) fringe. |
| Note: Sample buckskin colors may vary slightly depending on your browser. But then, colors vary slightly anyway between batches of buckskin during the smoking or dyeing processes. | |||||
